Are you aware the Hilton Head Island airport is not listed in the Hilton Head phone book yellow pages. The Savannah airport is.
Be aware that until we (Committee to protect the Hilton Head Island Airport) strongly lobbied the HHI Chamber of Commerce the HHI Airport was not mentioned in the Chamber's web site. It is now.
These are small but important points. A citizen's group has to point out to you stewards of the airport that these elementary and basic elements of good business have been neglected. As of the end of September approximately 485 people per day have used the HHI airport. It has an annual income of $150,000 per year, the equivalent of a business with sales of $1.5 million per year with a 10% return. It could generate a lot more income. It is pretty big business.
I call on the entire County Council to repudiate the new AAB charter which is simply a "watch dog" group and more of what exists now.
Appoint a 7 person group whose sole aim is to recommend to you the actions that bring about the highest and best use of the airport(s). Having heard their input you can then filter out what is best for all concerned. Let the AAB have "integrity of purpose" so that you can get the best info available.
All of the County residents have tremendous access to the AAB and to you. Phone, e-mail, personal appearance, speaking before he groups, the new video set up, channel 66 - we can get our points across.
I urge you to bite the political bullet and give the airport it's just support by bringing forth a slim technical AAB who has savvy and experience to bolster these assets of ours.
I am a member of the Committee To Protect the HHI Airport. I am not a pilot.
John Morrissette
